Getting started
Create your first case
Open a matter in SettlHQ and fill in the details that shape everything generated later.
A case is the container for one client matter: its documents, its chronology, its expense summary, and its demand letter. Everything in SettlHQ hangs off a case, so this is the first thing to create.
Creating a case
- From Cases, click New case.
- Enter the client name. This is how you'll find the matter later, so use the name your firm files under.
- Set the date of loss. Treatment before this date is treated as pre-existing in the chronology, so it's worth getting right.
- Choose the jurisdiction.
- Click Create new case.
If your firm has connected Clio, the new case dialog can search your Clio matters and pull the client details across instead of typing them.
Changing details later
Client name, date of loss, and jurisdiction can all be edited from the case page. Changing the date of loss affects how the chronology separates pre-existing treatment from accident-related treatment, so regenerate your outputs afterwards.
Finding a case again
The Cases list shows every matter your firm has open, with document counts and when each was last touched. Search by client name or jurisdiction to narrow it down.
